Even UFC fans have to marvel at what Bernard Hopkins is doing at 46 years old, as he prepares to defend his WBC and The Ring light-heavyweight titles in a couple of weeks at the Staples Center against Chad Dawson, a former champion in the WBC, IBF and IBO. Can Dawson team up with Father Time to slow down B-Hop?
Hopkins Dawson Odds – Saturday, October 15th, 10:00 PM ET
Hopkins (52-5-2, 1 NC, 34 KOs) should be a favorite of per head players as he continues to defy the odds, and he showed he still had it in a decision over Jean Pascal in a rematch of their draw five months later. He’s one of the smartest boxers out there as Hopkins forces you to fight on his terms; some say he uses dirty tricks, but Hopkins will tell you it’s just experience.
Dawson (30-1, 1 NC, 17 KOs) lost the WBC belt to Pascal and feels as though Hopkins is just holding onto his belt until he can get it back. In his first match under Emanuel Steward, Dawson defeated Adrian Diaconu and he has been also sparring with Winky Wright, who lost a decision to Hopkins in 2007 and can help Dawson with the champ’s “tricks”.
Boxing odds have Dawson as a -140 favorite in this fight, while Hopkins comes in at +110, and this figures to go the distance as Hopkins hasn’t scored a KO since 2004, and Dawson since 2007. This will be a battle of wills; who can dictate the pace of the fight? We’re taking the wily veteran, Hopkins, for the upset in your sport betting book.
